The programme is convened by Human Rights Studies at the Department of History. After completing your degree at advanced level you have the option to apply for PhD studies at Lund University as an alternative to seeking employment in industry or society. You can also undertake PhD studies after working in industry for a time, or in combination with a career in industry, either as an employed PhD student or as a PhD student in industry.

The PhD programme includes four years of full time studies (240 credits). Studies can alsp be carried out part-time (no less than half time) and cover a maximum of 8 years. As a doctoral candidate you have the right, but not the obligation, to take a licentiate degree (120 credits) as a stage in the doctoral programme. If a PhD student at Lund University has been absent due to illness, or taken parental leave, a leave of absence for military service, or leave due to an elected position within a trade union, the PhD student’s employment shall be extended on the doctoral student’s request.
